Personal Perspective: Irene Yu

You might know me as that girl that has changed a lot since elementary school, or the girl that complimented your outfit in the bathroom or the girl that you never agreed with in your history class. You might know me because the shoes I wear every day make loud noises in the hallways, or because you’ve been in classes with me since middle school or just because you’re friends with Julian. No matter how you know me, I can guarantee you that I’ve given extensive thought to what you must think about me – whether that’s over the span of a few days, a few hours or just a few minutes, as you walk by me in ...

Lil Yachty “Teenage Emotions”

Miles McCollum, more commonly known as Lil Yachty, is on the more serious end of the spectrum of new teenage Soundcloud rappers with nonsensical lyrics, name brand clothes and impressive Instagram pages. At just 19 years old, Lil Yachty, who describes his music style as “bubblegum trap,” has developed two drastically different personalities through his music: Yachty and Lil Boat. In an interview with Genius, Lil Yachty described Lil Boat as “a ruthless dude” and Yachty as “a nice dude.” Both personalities were introduced on his 2016 debut mixtape “Lil Boat,” and are introduced again...

1 in 2,568: Rayhan Tabani

At Public Square Coffee House in La Mesa, the focus is not on the drinks or the food; instead, much of the attention is directed toward the live performances and local artists. The stage, illuminated by red and purple lights and surrounded by late-night customers and musicians, is set up in the center. Jazz bands, soul artists and folk singer-songwriters have already taken the stage, but there remains one more act to supply the crowd with its nightly dose of rhythm and blues: Sugar Ray Ray. Rayhan Tabani (11), who is originally from Orange County, has been singing his whole life. Known by fellow Falcons as “Sugar...

Tomi Lahren should not have been suspended from The Blaze

Tomi Lahren is best known for being an outspoken young Republican woman. However on Mar. 17, during a guest appearance on “The View,” Lahren said women should have access to abortion and accused people who held pro-life positions of being hypocritical for claiming to want limited government yet supporting anti-abortion legislation.  This caused her to be suspended with pay from The Blaze, the conservative multi-platform news and entertainment network that hosts her TV show, “Tomi.” Even though she was not fired, Lahren filed a lawsuit on April 7 for wrongful termination. According to the New Y...

President Trump Wrongfully Undermines Journalistic Integrity

Being a part of the Falconer, or any news outlet, means reporting every story accurately and fairly. It means writing unbiased, well-informed and straightforward news stories. It also means having to constantly listen to people, whether they are peers, administrators, teachers or President Donald Trump, condemn reporters for being “dishonest” and blame news outlets when they report the truth. On Feb. 24, reporters from CNN, the New York Times, Politico, the Los Angeles Times, the BBC, the Huffington Post, the Guardian and Buzzfeed were banned from attending a non-televised briefing held by White House press se...
the imposter

The Imposter

“That’s my sister. And this is me, Nick.” The camera reveals a young Nicholas Barclay. In the home video, he and his sister, Carey Gibson, are laughing, but for Gibson it no longer evokes nostalgia. Thirteen-year-old Barclay was reported missing on June 13, 1994 in San Antonio, Texas. Three years later, Gibson received a phone call from authorities in Spain, who said they had found Barclay — except instead of the blonde, blue-eyed and 16-year-old she expected, the Barclay they found was 23 years old and had brown hair, brown eyes and a French accent. His name was also Frederic Bourdin...

One Paseo begins construction

One Paseo, a mixed-use project in Carmel Valley, has raised concerns from students and other residents in the community over its possible negative impacts. The project, which has been in progress for nine years, will be a “special community gathering destination with a new dining and shopping experience, multi-family residences [and] an innovative office campus,” according to Jeanne Kim, the public relations coordinator of One Paseo developer Kilroy Realty. The project will also host community events such as farmer’s markets, art exhibits and other outdoor entertainments.  Kevin Ham (1...

Il Fornaio

Located merely blocks away from the beach, Il Fornaio is exactly what you’d expect from a formal Italian  chain restaurant in Del Mar — a gorgeous view accompanied by satisfactory, but not extraordinary, slightly overpriced food. We were seated immediately in the almost empty restaurant, and the waitress quickly prepared a mix of olive oil and vinegar. While we dipped our complimentary bread in the mixture, we scanned the menu for the tastiest-sounding, but cheapest dishes.  For appetizers, we decided upon the Bruschetta Calda ($9.95) and Rustichella ($13.95), which arrived quickly. The Bruschet...

New Year, New Singles

"Shape of You" After a yearlong hiatus, pop singer Ed Sheeran released two discordant-sounding singles, “Castle on the Hill” and “Shape of You.” Sheeran’s characteristic stripped-down vocals are complemented by xylophone-sounding instrumentals in “Shape of You,” which is more in line with Sheeran’s usual style. The track highlights Sheeran’s signature sound while sounding elevated through higher production quality and more interesting instrumentals.    "Name for You" The Shins’ classic beachy and easygoing sou...

Potential new 2017 math class

A new Integrated Math 2/3 Honors class may be offered during the 2017-18 school year, according to Principal Rob Coppo.  Math teacher Kristina DeVico said that the course will cover all topics from Integrated Math 2 and Integrated Math 3 Honors in a single year. “The purpose of the class is to attract kids who are really interested in math and want a faster-moving class,” DeVico said. “These are the kids who want to get to Calculus quickly.” Arjun Naageshwaran (9), who is currently taking Integrated Math 1 Honors, is interested in taking the new course next year. ...
